Position Summary

The Staff Nurse – Rheumatology OPD Clinic at American Hospital Dubai provides age-specific, patient-centered nursing care to adults and geriatric patients in the Rheumatology Outpatient Department. Utilizing the nursing process, this role involves conducting specialized assessments, such as 6-minute walk tests and bedside spirometry, assisting with intraarticular injections, and supporting gastrointestinal and colorectal examinations. The Staff Nurse collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, promote patient safety, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-specific patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Perform specialized assessments, such as 6-minute walk tests, bedside spirometry, and musculoskeletal evaluations.
  • Assist in intraarticular injections, rectal examinations, and proctoscopy procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans, ensuring patient and family involvement.
  • Document all relevant data in medical records according to hospital standards.
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit.
  • Administer narcotic/controlled and semi-controlled drugs safely, following hospital policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including data collection, incident reporting, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Maintain clinical and professional competency through ongoing education and mandatory training (e.g., fire, safety, infection control).
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3-year full-time course) or Degree in Nursing (minimum 2-year course) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in Internal Medicine nursing.
  • Valid License/Registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Skills in age-specific patient assessment and care coordination.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and ability to prioritize care based on individual needs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • For UAE nationals: Exempt from experience and clinical training requirements (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book).
  • For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
