Description

Provides age-specific, patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process. Performs patient assessment and continual evaluation of physical and psychological needs. Involves patients, families, and healthcare providers in care planning and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care. Responsibilities also include equipment readiness, documentation compliance, safe medication handling, and contribution to continuous quality improvement, ensuring care standards meet JCIA and international requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver age-appropriate nursing care using evidence-based practices.
  • Perform focused assessments tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of patients and families, addressing both physical and emotional needs.
  • Engage patients and families in the plan of care when suitable.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide comprehensive care.
  • Coordinate and update care pathways, revising as patient status changes.
  • Identify subtle clinical cues that may indicate risk and act promptly.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in line with hospital protocols.
  • Maintain supplies and safe clinical environment.
  • Meet Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) requirements including infection control, fire, and safety protocols.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, committees, and unit objectives.
  • Safely handle and administer controlled substances with proper documentation.
  • Fulfill ongoing competency requirements including pain management and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and reporting.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and education activities.

Unit-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Point-of-Care (POC) testing for HbA1C levels.
  • Perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing for Ketone levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3-year full-time course) OR 2-year Nursing degree and registration from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • For UAE Nationals: Exemptions apply for clinical training requirements; must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book.
  • Non-UAE nationals graduating from UAE universities: must complete 6 months of post-graduate training in an APS facility (except RN/Assistant Nurse titles).
  • Valid license/registration to practice nursing from home country or last country of employment.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years recent post-graduate experience in Diabetes/Endocrine specialty settings.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate care and developmental needs.
  • Strong skills in patient assessment, care planning, and prioritization.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
