Position Summary
The Staff Nurse – Satellite Clinics (Outpatient) at American Hospital Dubai provides direct patient care and coordinates care-related activities for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations in outpatient satellite clinics. This role involves accurate patient identification, pre- and post-procedure care, and collaboration with physicians to ensure seamless patient experiences. The position adheres to UAE regulations and Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, including International Patient Safety Goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Perform problem-focused and age-specific patient assessments, including continual critical care assessments of physical and psychological needs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans, involving patients, families, and significant others as appropriate.
- Accurately identify patients and respond to urgent or emergency situations, directing team members as needed.
- Provide nursing care to patients before and after procedures, ensuring patient education is provided upon discharge.
- Book patient appointments, procedures, or treatments according to the treatment plan and follow up on diagnostic tests, coordinating with physicians to inform patients of results or follow-up needs.
- Maintain clean and stocked consultation rooms before and after patient visits, check crash carts and refrigeration temperature checklists, and report medical equipment due for Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) monthly.
- Address urgent care cases with physicians and manage Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tasks on time.
- Contact patients to inform them of approved labs and imaging, ensure scheduling, and follow up with insurance coordinators on pending approvals, updating patients on request statuses.
- Coordinate and prioritize care based on individual patient needs, initiating appropriate transfer plans when necessary.
- Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems and escalate using the Early Warning System and American Heart Association emergency algorithms.
- Document all relevant data in medical records accurately, concisely, and legibly, following hospital and JCI standards.
- Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the Satellite Clinics and patient care.
- Safely handle and administer Narcotic/Controlled and Semi-Controlled Drugs, adhering to policies and procedures.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including data collection, incident reporting, and audits.
- Uphold infection prevention and control (IPC) standards, including strict hand hygiene, bare below the elbows, and environmental care.
- Comply with Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS), reporting hazards and participating in training and drills.
- Complete mandatory education (e.g., fire, safety, infection control, pain management) and maintain unit competencies, including Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
- Participate in staff meetings, unit committees/projects, and ongoing educational activities to maintain clinical and professional competency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (minimum 3 years full-time course duration) or Degree in Nursing (minimum 2 years course duration) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in an outpatient or related clinical setting.
- Valid license/registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, per scope of practice.
- Knowledge and ability to provide care based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
- Skills in assessing physical and psychological needs of patients and families, and coordinating and prioritizing care.
- For UAE nationals: Exempt from experience and clinical training requirements (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book).
- For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
