Description

Provides comprehensive support for pediatric procedures and clinical care. Duties include assisting with aerosol treatment, Bili Check, circumcision, enteral feeding tube insertion, HbA1c testing, vaccines, pediatric visual screening, blood cultures, ketone meter usage, nasopharyngeal specimen collection, infant/toddler oral care, oral drug administration, oro-nasopharyngeal suctioning, and throat swab collection. In addition, supports health history interviews, pediatric assessments, and point-of-care testing for influenza and rapid strep. Ensures patient and family support, accurate documentation, and collaboration with the care team while maintaining safety and excellence in pediatric nursing care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-specific, patient-centered nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Perform patient assessments and continually evaluate needs of patients and families.
  • Engage families and healthcare providers in care planning.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with hospital standards.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and a safe clinical environment.
  • Safely manage narcotics/controlled drug handling and documentation.
  • Fulfill unit competencies (pain management, emergency equipment use, etc.).
  • Contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and incident reporting.
  • Participate in educational programs and uphold JCIA standards.

Unit-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Support with aerosol treatments and Bili Check procedures.
  • Assist with circumcision process and enteral feeding tube insertion.
  • Aid in HbA1c testing and point-of-care diagnostics for influenza and strep.
  • Assist with vaccine administration and pediatric visual screening.
  • Support blood culture collection, ketone meter usage, and nasopharyngeal specimen collection.
  • Provide infant and toddler oral care and aid in oral drug administration for infants.
  • Perform oro-nasopharyngeal suctioning and throat swab collection.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3-year course) OR 2-year Nursing degree with registration in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • For UAE nationals: Exemptions apply for experience/clinical requirements (must provide birth certificate and mother’s family book).
  • Non-UAE nationals graduating from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of APS clinical training post-graduation (except RN/Assistant Nurse titles).
  • Valid license/registration to practice nursing in home country or last employment country.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • At least 2 years of recent post-graduate pediatrics experience.
  • Knowledge in providing age-appropriate pediatric care and support.
  • Skilled in assessing both physical and psychological needs of children and families.
  • Strong ability to coordinate and prioritize care in a clinical pediatric setting.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
