Position Summary

The Cath Lab Nurse at American Hospital Dubai provides age-specific, patient-centered care in the Heart Centre, focusing on professional performance and safe patient care. This role involves nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, with a focus on coordinating care for patients undergoing advanced cardiac procedures. The Cath Lab Nurse adheres to Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Perform continual critical care assessments of patients’ and families’ physical and psychological needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans, involving patients and significant others as appropriate.
  • Assist in advanced cardiac procedures, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), extracorporeal hemoadsorption (EHAC) therapy, pacemaker insertion, percutaneous coronary interventions (CTO), and pulmonary artery catheter insertion/removal.
  • Document all relevant data in medical records according to hospital standards.
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit.
  • Safely handle and administer narcotic/controlled and semi-controlled drugs as per policies.
  • Participate in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including data collection, incident reporting, and medication error reporting.
  • Meet Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) mandatory education requirements (e.g., fire, safety, infection control).
  • Serve as a preceptor (when applicable), providing competency-based orientation and objective feedback to orientees and nurse managers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3-year full-time course) or Degree in Nursing (minimum 2-year course) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in Cardiology Nursing or Heart Centre.
  • Valid License/Registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide care based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
  • Skills in assessing and coordinating patient and family physical and psychological needs.
  • Ability to prioritize care based on individual needs and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • For UAE nationals: Exempt from experience and clinical training requirements (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book).
  • For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
