Description

The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking a Staff Psychologist to join the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program within the Mental Health Service Line. You'll provide comprehensive psychological assessment and intervention services directly in veterans' homes, serving those who need mental health support but have difficulty traveling to medical facilities. This role involves working as a consultant on interdisciplinary teams, evaluating conditions like depression, anxiety, dementia, and substance abuse, and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Provide comprehensive psychodiagnostic services, including psychological and neuropsychological assessments, in veterans' homes
  • Evaluate depression, anxiety, dementia, substance abuse, and other behavioral and mood disorders
  • Deliver structured psychotherapy and counseling using evidence-based protocols for veterans, caregivers, and families
  • Assess patient capacity for medical decision-making, understanding of Advanced Directives, and ability to live independently
  • Provide behavioral health interventions for pain management, sleep impairments, weight changes, smoking cessation, and medical compliance
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on treatment planning and present educational material on evidence-based intervention techniques
  • Evaluate cognitive deficits and determine if referral for neuropsychological assessment is needed

What you'll need to have:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
  • Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program
  • Completed professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in any U.S. state or territory (non-licensed applicants may receive temporary appointment at GS-11 or GS-12)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Preferred: Experience working with older adults and individuals with dementia, administering cognitive assessments, and providing evidence-based psychotherapy

Job Details

Location: Orlando, FL

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Travel: Frequent travel required for home and community visits within the catchment area

Trial Period: 2-year trial period required

Salary Range

$90,014 - $166,785 per year

GS-11 to GS-13 based on experience and qualifications
