Description
The Amarillo VA Health Care System is looking for a Social Worker to join the Suicide Prevention Team in Lubbock, Texas. This is a critical role where you'll work directly with Veterans at risk and serve as an advisor to facility leadership on suicide prevention strategies. You'll track at-risk patients, respond to Veterans Crisis Line consults, provide training to VA and community partners, and coordinate care for some of our most vulnerable Veterans. This position is approved for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan repayment up to $200,000. Here's what you'll be doing:
- Tracking all suicide and preparatory behaviors and ensuring Veterans on the facility tracking list receive close follow-up
- Responding to Veterans Crisis Line consults on a daily basis
- Following up on no-show appointments and rescheduling patients as quickly as possible
- Providing VA SAVE training to VA staff and community resources
- Consulting with treatment teams and staff on psychosocial needs and their impact on health care planning and compliance
- Educating Veterans and families on community resources, VA benefits, specialty programs, and advance directives
- Serving on committees, work groups, and task forces as needed
- Maintaining documentation and data management in VA computer systems
What you'll need to have:
- Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited school
- U.S. citizenship and proficiency in written and spoken English
- For GS-9: State licensure or certification at the master's level (or ability to obtain within three years)
- For GS-11: State licensure at the independent practice level, plus one year of post-MSW experience equivalent to GS-9 (or a doctoral degree in social work)
- Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, and common medications
- Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and implement treatment plans for individuals, families, and groups

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Grade: GS-9 to GS-11 (Full Performance Level: GS-11)
Salary Range
$61,111 - $96,116 per year
