Description
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking a Geriatrics and Extended Care Physician to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to Veterans residing in the Community Living Centers in Kerrville, Texas. You'll work collaboratively with Medical Directors, Program Managers, and multidisciplinary team members to deliver compassionate care to older Veterans, including those in long-term care and hospice settings. This role blends direct clinical responsibilities with administrative duties, giving you the opportunity to shape program quality and drive performance improvement initiatives. Here's what you'll be doing:
- Providing clinical input and oversight for patients' treatment plans in the Community Living Centers.
- Delivering evidence-based care in a timely manner and in appropriate settings.
- Overseeing delegated care activities of Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, PharmDs, and others practicing within their scope.
- Facilitating appropriate consultations and implementing consultant recommendations.
- Addressing infection control issues, including skin testing, immunizations, and infection prevention.
- Participating in staff meetings, chart reviews, peer review, and process improvement initiatives.
- Completing documentation requirements in CPRS in a timely manner, including cosigning student, fellow, and resident notes.
- Providing cross-coverage to different clinical GEC services within approved privileges.
- Serving as backup for other GEC providers and arranging physician coverage during absences.
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. Citizenship is required (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
- Completed residency training approved by ACGME or AOA leading to board eligibility.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine.
- Experience managing residents in a Community Living Center or long-term nursing home care setting.
- Experience managing complex geriatric medical problems in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
- At least one year of experience managing hospice patients.
Job Details
Location: Kerrville, Texas
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Salary Range:
$220,000 - $300,000 per year
