Description
The South Texas Veterans Health Care System is looking for a Gastroenterologist to join the team at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Hospital in San Antonio. You'll provide comprehensive GI and hepatology care to Veterans in both inpatient and outpatient settings, perform general endoscopic procedures, and contribute to a high-complexity academic medical environment. This position offers a recruitment or relocation incentive for highly qualified candidates and is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program. Here's what you'll be doing:
- Providing compassionate, effective patient care for GI and hepatology patients, including health promotion, disease treatment, and end-of-life care.
- Performing general endoscopic procedures as approved by the Professional Standards Board (EUS and ERCP not required).
- Providing inpatient and consult services during off-tour hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Participating in leadership responsibilities, including staff meetings, hospital committees, peer review, and potentially acting as Section Chief during absences.
- Contributing to clinical management activities such as consult management, CPRS documentation, patient scheduling, and performance measure oversight.
- Participating in quality improvement, utilization review, and patient safety initiatives.
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. Citizenship is required (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited).
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, full, and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
- Completed residency training approved by ACGME or AOA leading to board eligibility.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
- Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
- Recent experience providing inpatient and outpatient care of GI and hepatology patients in a complexity level 1a facility.
- Proficiency in general endoscopic procedures.
- Recent VA experience preferred but not required.
- Recent exposure to an academic education environment.
Job Details
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Travel: 25% or less may be expected.
Salary Range:
$350,000 - $400,000 per year
