Staff Psychologist - Substance Use Disorder Recovery

Description

The VA Western Colorado Health Care System in Grand Junction is looking for a Staff Psychologist to join their Substance Use Disorder Recovery program. You'll provide specialized mental health treatment to Veterans struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions like PTSD and other mental health challenges. This role involves delivering evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for SUD, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and Contingency Management. You'll work with a diverse Veteran population, conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and serve as an advocate for those you serve. This position offers up to $200,000 in student loan repayment through the EDRP program, a potential sign-on bonus, and excellent federal benefits.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Providing individual, group, and family psychotherapy using evidence-based interventions for substance use disorders and co-morbid mental health conditions
  • Utilizing recognized treatments such as CBT for SUD, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and Contingency Management
  • Conducting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and developing coordinated treatment plans with the care team
  • Implementing Measurement Based Care to track treatment effectiveness and patient outcomes
  • Providing crisis intervention using Suicide Prevention and Management of Suicidal Behavior protocols
  • Assessing and documenting behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and intimate partner violence
  • Coordinating referrals to VA services, community resources, and other government agencies
  • Providing consultation, education, and mentorship to colleagues, students, and community agencies
  • Advocating on behalf of Veterans to ensure timely access to services and benefits

What you'll need to have:

  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
  • Doctoral degree in psychology (clinical, counseling, or related specialty) from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program
  • Successfully completed APA or CPA accredited professional psychology internship
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in any U.S. State or territory (non-licensed applicants may be considered for temporary appointment at GS-11/12)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • For GS-12: At least one year of experience as a professional psychologist at the GS-11 level
  • For GS-13: At least two years of experience as a professional psychologist, with one year at the GS-12 level

Job Details

Location: Grand Junction, Colorado

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Telework: Ad-hoc telework available

Grade Level: GS-11 to GS-13 (Full performance level is GS-13)

Salary Range

$92,439 - $171,279 per year

Based on grade level, qualifications, and experience
