Description
The Dayton VA Medical Center is looking for a Supervisory Rheumatologist to lead and grow our rheumatology service while providing hands on clinical care to Veterans. In this role, you will balance direct patient care with program oversight, work closely with colleagues across medicine and surgery, and help shape how rheumatologic care is delivered for a grateful patient population. You will join a stable federal health system, benefit from the VHA Physician Total Rewards package, and practice in a setting that supports long term career satisfaction without the burden of RVU pressure or restrictive contracts.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Provide comprehensive rheumatology care, including detailed histories and physical exams for adults with a full range of rheumatic diseases.
- Perform and interpret musculoskeletal ultrasound of joints and soft tissues, and carry out therapeutic and diagnostic joint, bursal, and tendon sheath aspirations and injections.
- Perform trigger point injections and selected biopsies relevant to rheumatic disease diagnosis, and coordinate advanced testing such as EMG and muscle or nerve biopsies.
- Interpret bone and joint imaging and bone density measurements, and manage treatment plans using steroids, NSAIDs, traditional and biologic DMARDs, and other advanced therapies.
- Provide supervisory leadership for the rheumatology clinic, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and participate in quality improvement or clinical research activities as needed.
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. citizenship preferred; non citizens may be considered when qualified citizens are not available, in accordance with VA policy.
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school, plus completion of an ACGME or AOA approved residency leading to board eligibility in a core specialty, with rheumatology training.
- Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English, and the clinical skills to perform rheumatologic assessments, procedures, imaging interpretation, and medication management.
- Ability to meet VA physical requirements, pass pre employment screening, and work effectively as a communicator, leader, and team player in a growing medical center.
