Description
The Texas Valley Coastal Bend VA Health Care System in Harlingen is looking for a Staff Psychologist to join the Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) team. You'll serve as the primary mental health provider, delivering assessments, treatments, and consultations to Veterans in their homes and communities. This role combines clinical work with meaningful travel throughout the catchment area. You may qualify for up to $200,000 in student loan repayment through the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), and recruitment or relocation incentives are available for highly qualified candidates.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Screen, assess, diagnose, and treat depressive disorders, anxiety, substance misuse, and other mental health conditions using evidence-based approaches
- Provide psychological prevention services for Veterans at risk and support families of Veterans with dementia
- Perform cognitive screenings, capacity assessments, and evaluations for medical decision-making ability
- Deliver individual and group interventions to help Veterans cope with grief, loss, disability, and life transitions
- Provide behavioral medicine interventions for pain management, sleep issues, weight loss, smoking cessation, and medical compliance
- Support caregivers and family members with psychoeducational interventions to keep Veterans at home
- Deliver clinical services through Telehealth technology when appropriate
- Provide clinical supervision to psychology students, interns, fellows, and residents
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
- Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program
- Completed professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA
- Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state or territory (non-licensed applicants may receive temporary appointment at GS-11 or GS-12)
- Valid, unrestricted state-issued driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
Job Details
Location: Harlingen, TX (frequent travel within the catchment area for home and community visits)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Travel: Up to 75% within the local service area
Salary
$83,280 - $154,309 per year
GS-11 through GS-13 with promotion potential to GS-13
