Staff Psychologist, Community Living Center (EDRP Approved)

VA North Texas Health Care System, Bonham, TX

Description

Join VA North Texas as a staff psychologist serving Veterans in the Community Living Center in Bonham, TX. You will work on an inpatient rehabilitation, palliative care, and hospice team, providing psychological and cognitive assessment, brief evidence-based treatment, behavioral interventions, and consultation to an interdisciplinary group of medical professionals. This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) and may offer a recruitment or relocation incentive for highly qualified candidates. The schedule is weekday, daytime hours with no telework, so you can focus on direct, face to face care for medically complex and aging Veterans.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Conduct clinical interviews and brief cognitive, psychological, and capacity evaluations to diagnose and clarify treatment needs.
  • Deliver evidence-based individual, group, and family interventions that support coping, behavior management, and adherence to medical treatment.
  • Offer consultation and collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other disciplines on the Behavioral Health and CLC teams.
  • Complete suicide risk assessments and safety plans, respond to behavioral crises, and document care in a timely, accurate manner within VA systems.

What you'll need to have:

  • U.S. citizenship, English proficiency, and ability to meet VA onboarding, background, and drug testing requirements.
  • Doctoral degree in psychology (PhD or PsyD) from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program, plus an approved internship consistent with clinical duties.
  • Full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state or territory, or eligibility for a supervised temporary appointment while pursuing licensure.
  • Clinical skills in assessment and evidence-based intervention with adults who have complex medical, psychological, and cognitive conditions; comfort working in an interdisciplinary inpatient setting.
  • Preferred: two year neuropsychology postdoctoral residency, experience with medically fragile and geriatric populations (including hospice and palliative care), behavioral management training, and crisis intervention experience.
