The Martinsburg VA Medical Center is recruiting a full-time Staff Anesthesiologist to join their team in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle. You'll provide comprehensive perioperative care, from preoperative assessments through post-anesthesia management, serving over 70,000 veterans across West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. This role covers the full scope of anesthesia practice: general, regional, neuraxial, MAC, pain management, and critical care services. You'll also supervise CRNAs, residents, and students. Here's what you'll be doing:
- Conduct comprehensive preoperative patient evaluations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and obtain informed consent
- Provide general, regional, neuraxial, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and sedation for surgical and procedural cases
- Manage airways including intubation and advanced airway devices; administer IV, inhalational, and adjunct anesthetic agents
- Perform invasive monitoring procedures including arterial lines, central venous access, and pulmonary artery catheters
- Direct and supervise Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), anesthesia residents, and students
- Provide post-anesthesia care in PACU and ICU settings, managing postoperative pain through epidurals, nerve blocks, PCA, and multimodal analgesia
- Lead resuscitative efforts and provide ACLS during perioperative emergencies; manage ventilatory and hemodynamic support for critically ill patients
- Deliver anesthesia services outside the OR in procedural suites including endoscopy, interventional radiology, and cardiac cath lab
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved institution
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory
- Completed residency training in Anesthesiology approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent
- Board Certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology (required)
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination and background investigation
Job Details
Location: Martinsburg, WV (just over 1 hour west of Washington DC)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Salary Range
$330,000 - $360,000 per year
Base Pay + Market Pay determined through formal pay-setting process
