The Tomah VA Medical Center is recruiting a board certified or board eligible Primary Care Physician for our Wausau Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Wausau, WI. In this role, you will provide comprehensive outpatient care for Veterans in a stable weekday schedule with no federal holidays and no inpatient call. This position is eligible for a recruitment or relocation incentive, the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), and the Physician Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), giving you multiple ways to reduce student debt while practicing mission driven medicine in a collaborative team environment.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Provide full spectrum primary care for an assigned panel of adult Veterans, including histories, physical exams, diagnosis, and ongoing management of chronic and acute conditions.
- See follow up visits, order and interpret diagnostic tests, adjust medications, and coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources when needed.
- Respond to urgent and emergency situations in clinic, initiate treatment, and arrange transfer to higher levels of care when appropriate.
- Work as a core member of an interdisciplinary team that includes advanced practice providers, nurses, care managers, and allied health professionals to deliver team based care.
- Use the VA electronic health record to document assessments, orders, and plans of care, and serve as a clinical consultant or supervising physician for physician assistants as needed.
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. citizenship preferred; non citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens are not available, in line with VA policy.
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school and completion of an ACGME or AOA approved residency in a core specialty such as Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, leading to board eligibility.
- Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and comfort using an electronic medical record with basic keyboard and computer skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team, maintain current clinical knowledge, and follow VA and medical center policies and procedures.
Job Details
Location: Wausau, WI
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Salary: $240,000 to $315,000 per year (final pay set through VA pay-setting process)
