Physician – Inpatient Mental Health Program Manager

Description

The VA is looking for a highly qualified physician to lead the Inpatient Mental Health Program at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center. In this role, you'll oversee a multidisciplinary team delivering complex care to veterans, while maintaining a strong clinical presence by providing direct patient care. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to improve lives through leadership, psychiatric expertise, and compassionate service.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Lead and manage the Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit and its daily operations.
  • Supervise a team of diverse mental health professionals and support staff.
  • Develop and implement program goals, clinical procedures, and strategic plans.
  • Provide direct psychiatric care and psychopharmacologic treatments to VA patients at least 70% of the time.
  • Ensure high-quality post-discharge continuity of care and community coordination.

What you'll need to have:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school and active/unrestricted U.S. medical license.
  • Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-approved residency program in psychiatry.
  • U.S. Citizenship and proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred experience in inpatient mental health, trauma, addiction treatment, suicide risk evaluation, and team supervision.
