Description
Looking for flexible ICU work that fits your schedule? The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque is hiring Fee Basis Critical Care Physicians to provide expert care in their Intensive Care Unit. This isn't your typical salaried position: you'll be compensated based on the CPT codes you perform each shift, giving you control over your earnings and schedule. You'll evaluate, diagnose, and treat critically ill veterans while working alongside hospitalists, APPs, and other specialists. If you're a fellowship-trained intensivist who wants meaningful work without the constraints of a traditional employment contract, this opportunity offers both clinical challenge and scheduling freedom.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat all ICU patients assigned to your care, ordering appropriate diagnostic studies and interventions
- Perform critical care procedures including central line placement and airway management
- Provide consultative evaluations for general medical wards, surgical wards, and the emergency department
- Collaborate with ICU APPs, hospitalists, nursing staff, social workers, pharmacy, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive treatment plans
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education about diagnoses and treatment options
- Complete all clinical documentation in a timely manner, including H&Ps, consult reviews, discharge summaries, and medication reconciliation
- Ensure high-quality patient care is delivered efficiently while meeting and exceeding compliance standards
- Perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief of Medicine Service
What you'll need to have:
- U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an approved institution
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state or territory
- Completed residency training approved by ACGME, AOA, or equivalent
- Completion of Critical Care Fellowship
- Experience in procedures including placement of central lines and airway management
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination and background investigation
