Description

VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System in Reno, NV is seeking a Physician to serve as Deputy Associate Chief of Medicine. In this leadership role, you will help oversee multiple medical subspecialty services, support faculty and program development, and still maintain a meaningful clinical practice in your area of expertise. You will partner closely with the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine, supervise a portion of the medical staff, and help drive quality, performance, and innovation in care for Veterans. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program, so you may receive significant student loan repayment while building a long term leadership career in a stable federal health system.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Provide day to day leadership and supervision for a portion of Medical Service staff, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and section chiefs across multiple subspecialties.
  • Oversee clinical and administrative operations for services such as Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hospitalist and Academic Medicine, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Oncology, Pulmonology and Critical Care, Rheumatology, Sleep Medicine, and Hospital in Home.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Chief of Staff for Medicine on program development, performance measures, quality improvement, resource management, and faculty and staff recruitment and retention.
  • Participate in medical center leadership bodies, including the Medical Executive Council when covering as Acting ACOS, and represent Medical Service on key committees and councils.
  • Maintain an active clinical workload in your specialty through inpatient attending, consult services, and or outpatient clinics, while meeting medical staff requirements for privileging and continuing education.

What you'll need to have:

  • U.S. citizenship preferred; non citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA policy.
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school, plus completion of an ACGME or AOA approved residency in a core specialty leading to board eligibility.
  • Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, and proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to meet VA physical requirements, pass a pre employment physical and drug screening, and satisfy credentialing and privileging standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills; preferred experience includes board certification or eligibility in Physical Medicine or Pain, and prior administrative or supervisory experience.

Job Details

Location: Reno, NV

Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; telework may be available per VA policy

Salary: $300,000 to $320,000 per year (final pay set through VA pay-setting process)
