Position Summary

The Staff Nurse – Medical Imaging at American Hospital Dubai provides age-specific, patient-centered care in the Medical Imaging department. This role involves supporting a range of procedures, including Nuclear Medicine Cardiac Stress Tests, renal Creatinine blood tests, and interventions like gastrostomy tube changes, implanted port management, and PICC line care. The Staff Nurse collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, ensures patient safety, and adheres to Joint Commission International (JCI) standards while participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Assist in procedures such as Nuclear Medicine Cardiac Stress Tests, renal Creatinine blood tests (POCT), gastrostomy tube changes, implanted port management, PICC line care, lumbar punctures, paracentesis, percutaneous liver biopsies, nephrostomy tube insertions, thoracentesis, and transjugular liver biopsies.
  • Administer and monitor conscious sedation, documenting vital signs as required.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans, involving patients and families as appropriate.
  • Document all relevant data in medical records according to hospital standards.
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit.
  • Safely handle and administer narcotic/controlled and semi-controlled drugs per hospital policies.
  • Participate in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities, including data collection, incident reporting, and medication error reporting.
  • Meet Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) mandatory education requirements (e.g., fire, safety, infection control).
  • Maintain clinical and professional competency through ongoing education and complete yearly critical care nursing competencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (minimum 3-year full-time course) or Degree in Nursing (minimum 2-year course) with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in Medical Imaging Nursing.
  • Valid License/Registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge and ability to provide care based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
  • Skills in assessing and coordinating patient and family physical and psychological needs.
  • Ability to prioritize care and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • For UAE nationals: Exempt from experience and clinical training requirements (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book).
  • For non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities: Must complete 6 months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
