Nurse Practitioner, Emergency (18-Month Contract)

Description

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking an autonomous and skilled Nurse Practitioner for the Emergency Departments at Toronto Western and Toronto General Hospitals. In this role, you will use advanced knowledge and decision-making skills to independently assess, diagnose, and manage patient care. You will also have the opportunity to provide care through UHN's innovative Virtual Emergency Department, offering a dynamic blend of in-person and virtual practice at Canada's #1 hospital.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, independently communicate diagnoses, and manage the care of patients in the Emergency Department.
• Prescribe medications and order a range of diagnostic tests within the full scope of an RN(EC).
• Develop and implement health promotion and illness prevention strategies for individuals, families, and groups.
• Provide care to patients through both in-person and virtual platforms as part of UHN’s Virtual Emergency Department.
• Demonstrate leadership by participating in educational activities, team building, and collaborative practice initiatives.
• Utilize strong triage skills to effectively manage patient flow and prioritize care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing (or within one semester of completion).
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (or pending).
• Nurse Practitioner (NP) certificate in Adult or Primary Care (or pending).
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in Emergency Services is preferred.
• Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in Emergency Nursing is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills in a clinical setting.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to collaborative, patient-focused care.
