Manager, Inpatient Nursing (SDICU)

Description

Provides leadership and oversight for Stepdown/Intermediate ICU (SDICU) operations and staff. Responsible for clinical and operational performance of inpatient nursing services, ensuring safe, effective, and efficient delivery of care aligned with laws, standards, and regulations. Develops protocols, manages resources, and supports staff engagement while fostering collaboration across departments. Oversees operational and capital budgets, standardizes workflows, and ensures compliance with TJC and regulatory standards. Acts strategically and tactically to improve clinical outcomes, financial performance, and patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing leadership and direction for inpatient SDICU operations.
• Plan, organize, and manage nursing resources and patient care delivery.
• Ensure compliance with accreditation, hospital, state, and federal standards.
• Develop and manage department budgets while optimizing resources and staffing.
• Identify best practices and implement standardized processes/workflows.
• Collaborate with peers, leaders, and external agencies to address operational issues.
• Intervene directly during complex or challenging clinical or staffing situations.
• Promote a positive, inclusive environment through team-building and coaching.
• Oversee quality improvement measures and ensure regulatory compliance documentation.
• Foster customer service focus across patient, family, and staff interactions.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Valid California RN License required.
• BLS – Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required.
• Minimum 8 years of clinical nursing experience in Stepdown/Intermediate ICU.
• Proven leadership experience with team building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
• Strong knowledge of inpatient care standards, laws, and accreditation requirements.
• Ability to effectively manage budgets, department resources, and workflow operations.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving capability.
• Knowledge of wage/hour laws, financial operations, and healthcare trends.
• Proficiency with essential software applications and EMR systems.
