Accountable for the assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in acute oncology settings. Provides direct patient care, patient/family education, and manages transitions of care. Delivers individualized, holistic care considering psychological, sociocultural, and lifestyle factors. Builds collaborative relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers. Ensures safety, compliance, and optimal outcomes by adhering to hospital policies, oncology standards of practice, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered oncology care using established nursing standards and protocols.
• Assess patient condition and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer treatments including chemotherapy/immunotherapy per certification requirements.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment, side effects, and supportive care.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, specialists, and the oncology team.
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Support safe handling of hazardous oncology medications per USP 800 guidelines.
• Promote a safe, compassionate, and supportive care environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN license in California.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider certification required.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (e.g., OCN, CPHON, CBCN, BMTCN, AOCNP) required.
• New oncology nurses or those with less than 1 year of oncology experience must complete ONS Foundations of Oncology Nursing within 90 days.
• ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Provider Card required within 90 days.
• At least 2 years of recent relevant clinical experience.
• Strong knowledge of oncology nursing theories, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
• Skilled in communication, time management, and patient/family engagement.
• Proficiency in EMR systems and basic computer applications.
