Optometrist
Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group (HMG)
🔍 Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye exams, including dilated eye tests.
- Measure visual acuity for both near and far vision (with and without glasses).
- Evaluate visual fields, contrast sensitivity, and color vision as needed.
- Perform subjective, objective (retinoscope), and cycloplegic refractions.
- Diagnose binocular/accommodative disorders and strabismus with appropriate treatments.
- Detect visual pathway neurological disorders and make relevant referrals.
- Perform pre- and post-operative exams in collaboration with surgical teams.
- Use slit lamp and condensing lenses (90D, 28D, 20D) for fundus and anterior segment examination.
- Use diagnostic eye drugs such as fluorescein, mydriatics, cycloplegics, anesthetics.
- Measure intraocular pressure via Goldmann applanation tonometry.
- Remove superficial foreign bodies, perform eyelash epilation, and install punctum plugs.
Patient Referrals
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists for major eye conditions including:
- Retinal surgeries (e.g., detachment, macular hole)
- Diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy
- Diplopia, strabismus requiring surgery
- Corneal dystrophies/lacerations or active keratoconus
- Anterior chamber/vitreous hemorrhage or inflammation
- Refer to physicians for systemic diseases indicated through eye exams.
Patient Care & Additional Duties
- Counsel patients on preventive eye care and proper medication usage.
- Participate in HMG's person-centered care initiatives.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned—within knowledge & skill scope.
Requirements
- Education: Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) or equivalent degree
- License: Valid optometry license (Saudi Council for Health Specialties)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years clinical experience preferred
- Skills: Proficiency with ophthalmic equipment and procedures
- Languages: English required, Arabic preferred
