Unit Coordinator – Emergency Mental Health

📍 Duties and Responsibilities

• Act as primary contact for patients, families, and health teams related to MHA care in the Emergency Department.
• Lead shift operations, manage patient flow, and coordinate brief assessment, discharge planning, and community referrals.
• Apply trauma-informed and harm-reduction practices to ensure inclusive, compassionate care culture.
• Oversee completion of core assessments (e.g., RAI), and coordinate internal/external transfers.
• Ensure effective use of MHA resources and facilitate care within both Emergency and MHA programs.

📍 Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• BScN and ACLS preferred.
• BCLS certification required.
• 3 years' experience in Emergency Mental Health and/or Addictions settings required.
• CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training preferred.
• CNA certification in psychiatric mental health nursing is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Mental Health Act and substance use best practices.
• Effective communication and clinical interviewing skills.
• Ability to assess, triage, and support MHA patients with system navigation and care coordination.
• Familiarity with community MHA resources and emergency workflows.
