Employment Information

📍 Work Setting & Clinical Focus

  • Provide services across:
    • Forensic Psychiatric Hospital
    • Regional Clinics in BC
    • Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) Team
    • Community Transitional Care (CTC) Program
  • Treat individuals involved in the criminal justice system with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Deliver care in a high-security, interdisciplinary environment, supporting recovery and reintegration where possible.

📍 Key Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including risk-to-reoffend evaluations.
  • Interpret legal orders and reports for clients at various stages of judicial proceedings.
  • Develop care plans and expert court reports submitted to judicial bodies and BC Review Board.
  • Participate in treatment planning conferences and contribute to patient-centered rehabilitation pathways.
  • Provide outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care depending on the assigned program.

📍 Academic & Research Engagement

  • Opportunity to hold cross-appointments with the University of British Columbia (UBC).
  • Contribute to academic advancement of forensic psychiatry, offering lectures, mentorship, and conducting clinical research.

📍 Leadership & Innovation

  • Lead and support the development of new models of forensic service delivery, such as the FACT team.
  • Participate in BCMHSUS system-wide improvements, health promotion, and interagency collaboration.

📍 Qualifications

🎓 Education & Licensure

  • Fellowship in Psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • Subspecialty certification in Forensic Psychiatry, or equivalent recognized training
  • Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC)

🧳 Job Experience

  • Experience with mentally ill offenders, co-occurring disorders, or forensic psychiatric evaluations is preferred.
