Care Aide (Acute - Telemetry Unit)

📍 Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to patients including bathing, grooming, dressing, oral hygiene, and feeding support.
• Support nursing care by taking and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration), monitoring alarms/call bells, and assisting with clinical care as required.
• Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing team.
• Use mechanical aids (e.g., lifts, wheelchairs, stretchers, specialty beds) to assist in transferring or positioning patients using proper safety techniques.
• Maintain clean and safe environments to meet infection control and safety protocols.
• Complete documentation and help maintain accurate patient records in care information systems.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.
• Perform other related tasks as directed by supervising RN or clinical leader.

📍 Qualifications

🎓 Education & Experience

• Completed Grade 10.
• Graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant program, OR equivalent combination of education and training.
• Eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

🧠 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with others.
• Physically capable of performing duties, including lifting, repositioning, and patient care.
• Able to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Competent in using related healthcare equipment and electronic patient systems.
• Willingness to complete all required training and mandatory orientation by Vancouver Coastal Health.
