Position Summary

The RN Clinic Supervisor – Endocrinology at Palo Alto Medical Foundation provides clinical and administrative direction to personnel and activities within the Endocrinology clinic, ensuring quality patient care. This role involves assisting in the management and integration of department activities across multiple locations, implementing process improvement initiatives, and monitoring employee and patient satisfaction. The RN Clinic Supervisor provides direct patient care per their license for less than 50% of the time, while leading staff, managing operations, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for nursing and support staff in patient care planning, decision-making, communication, prioritization, and problem-solving.
  • Provide direct patient care within the scope of RN licensure, including assessments, care plan coordination, and patient education.
  • Counsel personnel on career mobility, motivation, performance evaluations, grievances, and progressive disciplinary actions, documenting in a timely manner.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, participate in recruitment, interviewing, reference checks, and hiring processes.
  • Orient and precept staff/students, ensuring completion of department orientation and work performance objectives.
  • Respond promptly to patient, physician, and staff concerns, completing follow-up and reporting results to management.
  • Conduct staff meetings for information sharing and problem-solving.
  • Prioritize projects, clinical demands, and department functions, keeping management informed of progress.
  • Project and manage staffing needs daily, weekly, and monthly, collaborating to meet department requirements within budgetary guidelines.
  • Review, sign, and ensure accuracy of employee timekeeper records, reporting issues to management.
  • Implement and monitor policies, workflows, competencies, and training to align with dashboard targets and satisfaction surveys.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, safety precautions, and applicable laws/regulations to promote a quality patient experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license for California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent relevant experience in nursing, preferably in endocrinology or a related clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of nursing theories, concepts, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Skills in delegation, leadership, and team management, with the ability to prioritize multiple demands in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of community resources, legal policies related to patient decisions, and performance standards for team members.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Epic, Intelliden, and IDX.
  • Completion of SMF orientation, including Basic Skills Assessment, Epic, and IDX coursework and competency assessment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing clinical and administrative tasks effectively.
