Job Summary

  • Provide low-barrier nursing care to Indigenous People Who Use Drugs (IPWUD) at Doris Fox Lelum.
  • Work in a cultural wellness hub focused on connection to Elders, harm reduction, peer support, and clinical care.
  • Support member wellbeing through holistic, safety-first, culturally safe approaches.

🩺 Key Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships with members rooted in empathy and cultural safety.
  • Provide IM/IN/IV and oral OAT and witness medications in a supportive, non-judgmental way.
  • Respond to overdoses and other medical emergencies.
  • Conduct assessments and administer basic care (wound care, sample collection, urine drug screening).
  • Perform point-of-care drug and rapid drug testing.
  • Advocate for members and assist with referrals (internal and external).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (Elders, Cultural Workers, Counsellors).
  • Document in Oscar EMR accurately and timely.
  • Follow leadership direction from Nurse Coordinator and Primary Care Co-Leads.

📚 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Cultural safety, harm reduction, Indigenous wellness knowledge.
  • BCCNM nursing standards.
  • Experience with overdoses, OAT, and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with TRC Calls to Action & BC DRIPA beneficial.
  • Comfortable in non-traditional medical settings.
  • CPR certified, experience in training others in naloxone use preferred.
  • Strong documentation, advocacy, and interpersonal skills.

🎓 Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Current BCCNM practicing registration.
  • CPR certified.
  • Completion of or willingness to take cultural competency training.

🧾 Working Conditions

  • Location: Doris Fox Lelum, 121 Heatley Avenue, in an Indigenous Wellness Resource Hub.
  • Part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Shifts/hours TBD based on FTE (0.4 to 1.0).
  • Supervised by Clinical Nurse Coordinator and Primary Care Co-Leads.
