Position Summary

As a member of the Interprofessional GU Radiation Oncology Team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions in an advanced practice role at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. This new position involves autonomous and collaborative management of patients with genitourinary (GU) cancers, participation in clinical trials, patient education, survivorship support, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The NP also undertakes leadership, academic, and quality improvement activities. Responsibilities may evolve to include brachytherapy, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy (radionuclide/theranostic approaches), but the foundation remains patient-centered care and interprofessional collaboration.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide care to GU oncology patients independently and collaboratively with physicians.
  • Lead new and follow-up patient consultations, including radiation oncology reviews.
  • Participate in screening/recruitment of patients for GU-related clinical trials.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment options, potential side effects, and survivorship planning.
  • Assist with psychosocial support, care navigation, and multidisciplinary collaboration with referring institutions.
  • Apply complex theoretical and practical clinical skills in GU oncology care.
  • Contribute to academic research, quality improvement, and leadership initiatives.
  • Mentor and orient new Nurse Practitioners and interprofessional team members.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Current registration in the Extended Class (NP-Adult or NP-PHC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • At least 3 years of relevant NP or oncology experience preferred.
  • Expertise in GU oncology and experience in independent clinics strongly preferred.
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification (CNA/ONCC) preferred.
  • Experience in nursing research methodology is an asset.
  • Strong decision-making, clinical judgment, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator; skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and patient/family education.
  • Evidence of malpractice insurance and professional liability coverage.
  • Membership in CANO or similar associations preferred.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Salary: $63.05 – $75.27 per hour (per collective agreement)
