Position Summary

The Diabetic Educator - Certificated at NMC Royal Hospital serves as a vital resource in the management of diabetic patients, working closely with Endocrinologists to deliver comprehensive education and care. This role focuses on patient and family education, care coordination, and ensuring effective management of diabetes through monitoring, education, and collaboration with the healthcare team, while maintaining high standards of patient safety and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide education on diabetes management, including disease process, medication, diet, nutritional monitoring, foot care, complication prevention, and self-monitoring techniques.
• Support Endocrinologists in patient care, including blood glucose monitoring and medication adjustments for insulin and non-insulin dependent diabetics.
• Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary health team, maintaining interdepartmental relationships.
• Document assessments, interventions, recommendations, goals, and progress notes accurately.
• Evaluate patient comprehension and compliance with education, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Manage patient flow in the department in coordination with Endocrinologists.
• Ensure proper maintenance and handling of unit equipment and supplies, reporting faults and preventing wastage.
• Promote patient and family rights, maintaining confidentiality and fostering a multidisciplinary team approach.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Nursing, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, or Master’s in Nursing.
• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience.
• Certification as a Diabetes Educator or postgraduate qualifications in Diabetes Education.
• Valid license to practice in the UAE (DoH, DHA).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate.
• Specialized nursing skills in teaching and decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to instill trust and confidence in patients, relatives, and healthcare teams.
• Competency in unit-specific procedures, equipment, and point-of-care testing.
• Training in quality modules, fire and safety, and HAZMAT.
